Design parameters to be considered in developing suitable operator's enclosures, and factors involved in making the enclosure compatible with the particular vehicle are reviewed. Though cab and vehicle designers must cooperate to develop a functional design, they must also take into consideration factors such as styling, safety, visibility, pressurization, and air conditioning needs.A detailed analysis of sound attenuation in the operator's enclosure is presented. Use of shock mounts, floor mats, fiberglass, perforated hardboard, and spray-on sound deadener are suggested for effective attentuation of sound. Two safety features to take into account are maximum visibility for the operator and roll-over protection in the cab. With proper planning in cab development, the result will be a safe, quiet, pleasant atmosphere in which the operator can work.
