New Federal Government policies about technology transfer between Federal Laboratories and domestic manufacturing industries are discussed. Attention is given to the design and manufacturing needs of today's domestic motor vehicle industry in contending with international competitors. An invitation is extended to manufacturers of assembled vehicles and to suppliers of parts and subassemblies to consider cooperative technology transfer programs with the National Bureau of Standards in measurements, standards, and properties of materials which can strengthen the international competitive position of the industry.
