Under NASA's direction, a cooperative effort was formed to leverage diagnostic technologies developed for Space Shuttle Main Engine (SSME) test monitoring and apply them to launch monitoring of the Atlas space launch vehicle.* The development of automated monitoring and analysis of launch system data are key elements in achieving increased vehicle reliability and reduced operational costs. Moreover, to reduce life cycle costs of fielding these applications, a rapid development approach is being emphasized. This paper presents the results achieved during the first year of this Atlas Propulsion Diagnostics Program and discusses the goals, approach, and accomplishments of the effort.
