The missile control system described here makes use of the free piston pump to convert cold gas pressure into hydraulic pressure. The design of the pump requires fewer components than a hot gas system and has resulted in improved maintainability and reliability as well as savings in cost and weight. The tests discussed here show that this simplified hydraulic control has successfully met most of the design objectives and has considerably facilitated check-out procedures.
