This paper identifies guidelines which will provide the maintainability and serviceability design characteristics demanded by the fifteen (15) to thirty (30) year life cycle of of modern military systems. This paper addresses design processes to enhance the desired maintainability features. While the focus is on electronic systems, the guidelines are easily applied to hydraulic systems, mechanical systems, engine systems, etc.
