Fuel cell electric vehicle is one of the powertrain paths to reach zero emission suggested by many different government and research institutes. This paper shows a convenient tool to model fuel cell electric vehicle performance with simple input. By using an in-house developed hybrid/battery/fuel cell vehicle modeling tool (HBFCMT), the fuel cell powertrain combination can be analyzed with the assumption of certain control strategy. One example of light duty passenger vehicle is analyzed using this tool. Corresponding vehicle and fuel cell performance data are presented. Compared with test data, the model results are within the expectation in trend wise. Overall, the difference between the model and test data is 6.1% regarding the key performance data: hydrogen consumption in the WLTC cycle. Such conclusion is reasonable to justify the application of the modelling tool in new energy fuel cell electric vehicle design and developments.
