AISIN AW has developed a new fuel saving technology called the Automatic Neutral Control System which is installed in the 50-40LN automatic transmission. While idling with the brake applied, the system shifts the transmission into neutral by automatically releasing its forward clutch, so that the slipping loss of the torque converter is eliminated and less fuel is required to maintain the idling of the engine it shifts back to drive when the foot brake is released or the accelerator pedal is pressed. A folly integrated electro-hydraulic circuit and unique control principle were designed to provide very precise pressure to the forward clutch. As a result, we have confidence that a highly reliable system has been achieved with large improvements in fuel consumption.
