Given in this paper are the characteristics of a sub-orbital passenger system as one of the versions of a Russian Multi-purpose Aerospace System (MAKS) based on the proven six engine AN-225 carrier jet aeroplane. The existing Russian technology permits within the next 5 years the creation of the so called MAKS system, which provides for three versions, that differ from each other by the 2nd stage payload carried. All versions are equipped with the a standardized three propellant-component two-regime rocket engine. The Russian MAKS system embraces a wide range of prospective payloads with a high expected launching rate, and this sub-orbital passenger version consists of the fully reusable component versions of the MAKS system. It's flight envelope includes system take-off from a regular commercial aerodrome, climb to altitude, prestarting maneuver, separation, 2nd stage ascent active leg, inactive leg outside the atmosphere, reentry and descent into the atmosphere, and landing on the destination commercial aerodrome. The MAKS system permits the transport of 54 passengers at distances up to 10000 km with a flight duration of 1h 30min, and, during a flight duration of 2h 10min to any destination point on earth. The scope of this paper includes the advantages of this system in comparison to a hypersonic type passenger aeroplane.
