USE of the radioactive tracer technique in single-cyl laboratory engines showed the effect of many variables on engine wear, as recorded in a series of test programs conducted by the author of this paper, in cooperation with a group of his associates. The author now presents further results covering two separate full-scale wear test programs carried out with the use of both laboratory engines and actual passenger cars in service. The resultant data are correlated with previous tracer tests in the laboratory.
