Utilizing the GM 9606P ‘Standard Practice for Specifying Electrical Component Appearance’ and GM 9603P ‘Procedure for Measuring Electrical Component Appearance’, this paper addresses the issue of selecting a filter to match emitted light for brightness and color. This technique for engineering emitted light to requirements can be utilized for the T.A.L.C. (Trim, Appearance, Lighting, and Color) of Appliqués, Buttons, LCD (Liquid Crystal Displays), and VF (Vacuum Fluorescent) Displays of Automotive Interior Components i.e. Radios, Air Controls, Instrument Clusters, and Lighted Switches.
