During development of the jumbo tri-jet and its powerplant installation, a new concept in cooperative design was established. This concept organized the airframe and engine manufacturers' and operators' representatives into a single team with the objective of producing a powerplant installation with an operational effectiveness in keeping with the mission of the jumbo tri-jet aircraft.
