The purpose of this paper is to describe the current progress and problems associated with the use of automotive gasoline in aircraft and reciprocating aircraft engines used in the United States. Comparison between United States and certain other countries automotive gasolines are reviewed. Anticipated performance of various automotive gasolines blended for International use are evaluated for their potential use in aircraft and reciprocating aircraft engines. The potential of future blends consisting of high percentages of oxygenates, (alcohols and co-solvents) are assessed for their applicability to aircraft and aircraft engines.
