This SAE Recommended Practice was developed primarily for passenger car and truck application, but may be used in marine, industrial, and similar applications. It addresses Non-Metallic caps and both Metallic and Non-Metallic filler necks. To provide a Recommended Practice for the construction details for Non-Metallic Cooling System Caps (used on Radiators and Surge Tanks) having a threaded (not cam-lock) construction and the required filler neck geometry. This Recommended Practice is a companion to SAE J164 Radiator Caps and Filler Necks which is an SAE Standard that covers only caps having a metallic material and utilizing a cam-lock (also known as bayonet) construction for installation and removal.
