Since commercialization in 1985 of structural reaction injection molding (SRIM) for spare tire covers, the SRIM process has been specified for additional applications, including the 1989 Corvette front bumper beam. This paper will discuss the driving forces for specifying SRIM into composite bumper beams, recent successes of SRIM for additional bumper beam programs and future development targets for continued growth.
