The space power system described in this paper is intended to demonstrate the capability of the closed recuperated Brayton cycle as a heat engine suitable for space application, and to show how radioisotope fuel can be utilized as an energy source for such a system. Discussed are the system’s design and operation, the heat source, the components of the system and its performance and reliability.
