The part-task simulator at McDonnell Douglas Helicopter Company was developed so that Human Factors personnel could perform a variety of studies prior to utilizing a full -mission simulator. The capability of this device permits the designer to “test” many iterations of format-display logic concepts in a “realistic” flight environment. It permits the designer to dynamically develop and interact with the variety of display formats under consideration, thereby reducing evaluation time. Besides display formats other new technologies, such as, workload studies, voice interactive techniques, and control position can be studied.
