Operational safety considerations should be one of the manufacturers' highest priority in the design of haulage equipment. Presently, numerous field modifications are required to be completed by the owner on new haulage trucks before entering the production phase. These modifications and additions are required to comply with governmental safety standards, to conform to Company safety policies and to follow current safety principles. Each of these modifications could be designed by the manufacturer and should be integrated into the manufacture/construction of the equipment. Engineering improvements will improve the safety and production records of the owner and enhance the reputation of the manufacturer while providing more economically produced equipment.
