The manufacture of windshields is a complicated process that combines a relative large number of both continuous and batch operations. Thus, if a defective windshields is manufactured it may not be easy to quickly decide on the root cause of the problem. For example low penetration resistance, optical distortion problems, glass-plastic separation, bubbles in the interlayer, edge defects, unusual stress levels and adhesion to the car body problems could be produced at many different points in the production process. A change in the manufacturing process could produce a variety of windshield problems and likewise any windshield problem may have been caused by any one of a number of processing problems.
