The achievements and experience gained in the field of household electronic controllers and “on power line” data transmission, have allowed the Zanussi Group to develop a complete car dashboard with integrated electronic instrumentation and alarm/control system. The design requirements for automotive electronic systems are in fact similar to those for household appliances: low cost, high reliability, easy man-machine interface techniques. These themes are better discussed in the paper: “Subsystems in the car: integration of functions and technologies” (1).This paper describes, in particular, the electronic control system, with regard to: - methods followed in working out product definition, - system solutions, - component choices.
