This paper presents a computational study of the flow field through the intake port of a MPFI gasoline engine. Three dimensional, unsteady, compressible flow within the port and cylinder for the intake and compression strokes has been simulated using the VECTIS CFD code. The flow structure was investigated at various valve lifts. Furthermore, some characteristics such as in-cylinder pressure and volumetric efficiency were compared with the experimental data. Boundary conditions were employed by complete 1-D simulation of the engine using commercial WAVE software. Variable pressure at the intake port was used as the boundary condition. Comparison of the computational results of WAVE and the experimental data showed a good comparison.
