This SAE Recommended Practice establishes a uniform test procedure for determining performance levels of operator enclosure panel type air filters on off-road, self-propelled work machines used in construction, general-purpose industrial, agriculture, and forestry as defined in SAE J1116 and equipped with an operator enclosure with a powered fresh air system. The following operator enclosure air filter guideline has been established to cover dry type cab air filters used on off-road, self-propelled work machines. The objective of this procedure is to provide a uniform means for evaluating the performance characteristics of enclosure air filters on bench test equipment. The data collected by this test procedure can be used to establish standards of performance for enclosure air filters. Variations in actual field operating conditions are difficult to duplicate; however, with the procedure and equipment set forth, comparisons of air filter effectiveness can be made. In the past, there have been numerous configurations of test housings. All of these designs have had one objective, to provide uniform dust loading throughout the entire area of the filter. The performance characteristics of greatest interest are air flow restriction or pressure drop, particulate collection efficiency, and particulate capacity. These test recommendations are defined under air cleaner test code SAE J726; however, the test shroud configurations defined in SAE J726 are not applicable for operator enclosure filter comparison.
