The purpose of the study described in this paper is to experimentally investigate some approachable running noise reduction methods and their effectiveness for a synchronous belt camshaft drive and (2) replacement of the single synchronous belt with two parallel narrower belts. To achieve the objectives, the noise generating mechanism and the influences on sound level of synchronous belts used to drive the camshaft of a four-cycle diesel engine were also investigated. Some directions for designing silent synchronous belt camshaft drive are recommended.
