The importance of a thorough maintenance and test program to assure safety of operation of aerial devices is stressed. The first step is to make certain that the persons responsible for operation and maintenance of the equipment acquire a fundamental understanding of the machine, preferably at the factory site during the assembly process. Next, a detailed preventive maintenance and test program should be followed that clearly indicates the tasks to be performed by the machine operator prior to flight and the responsibilities of the shop mechanic. Recommended checklists for both operators and maintenance mechanics are included as guides.
