For all their benefits, a consequence of the electronics now available on heavy trucks is added complexity in specification, assembly, and maintenance. Methods now employed to handle this complexity won't be adequate as more and more vehicles are equipped with electronics. This paper describes some development efforts that have the goal of reducing costs in both manufacture and maintenance of vehicles with electronic systems.
