Today's economic climate and business environment have dictated changes in the supplier-engine manufacturer relationship. Engine manufacturers are demanding more from their suppliers in the form of product performance data and test results prior to the evaluation of the supplier's head gasket proposal. As a result of increased development testing by the supplier, shortened product development timetables, and limited resources, methods other than engine testing in head gasket development are essential.This paper presents test methods for evaluating the cylinder head gasket joint, in lieu of engine testing in cylinder head gasket development.
