This paper describes studies with two sub-compact passenger car gasoline engines in which the extent and manner in which lubricants reach various parts are compared and contrasted. The paper describes “The state of the art” of this technique and goes on to postulate further topics worthy of study including the non-intrusive investigation of turbocharger and exhaust silencer deposit formation and the oil/gasoline lubrication of two stroke engines.
