Progressive design of plate-fin compact heat exchangers such as radiators, evaporators, condensers, heaters and oil coolers, has evolved the use of louvered fin elements to enhance heat transfer. All these brazed exchangers have the same generalized fin element shape. The louvers are typically formed into this two-dimensional fin element to enhance the unit airside surface conductance over that of an unlouvered flat or wavy fin. The performance of these systems depends on several non-dimensional parameters, including fin bond ratio, louver length to fin height ratio, and the degree to which the louvers enhance the surface conductance.
