The use of low carbon steel is required for the design of electromagnetic clutches for automotive air conditioner (A/C) applications. This, coupled with the need for clutch cycling to improve vehicle gas consumption, will add to the noise level under the hood plus generate heat which reduces belt life. This new application of phenolic will improve upon the above problems and reduce cost, weight, and complexity.
