American and European practice concerning cams and followers differ appreciably, and an important feature in Europe is the diversity of materials and designs employed. Suitably applied, the information now available on cam and follower behaviour should ensure satisfactory operation in Service. There are various engine tests carried out in Europe to determine cam and follower durability, and to a limited extent American methods are included. However, through ‘CEC’, European companies are developing a method which employs a special test machine.
