THE POWER PLANT of a 2000 H.P. diesel electric locomotive is utilized to provide 1000 KW at 575 VAC, 3 phase, 60 Hertz. Control circuits are set up so as to completely isolate the traction motors. Power connectors are located on the side of the locomotive. After initial conditions have been met, the “start” button automatically sequences the locomotive to the right speed, voltage and excitation to obtain the desired power. Various protective devices against under-over-frequency, under-over-voltage, thermal/instantaneous overloads are provided, along with monitoring meters, control switches and breakers. Different power/voltage ratings are possible.
