Experiments were conducted to determine the repeatability for an operator and the reproducibility between operators for two Ultrasonic Thickness Gages (UTG) when used under a variety of conditions. Some of the comparisons include: The results of these experiments should aid in understanding the usefulness and limitations of using ultrasonics to determine thickness strains in formed parts. This understanding can be used to help set meaningful safety bands for Thickness Forming Limit Diagrams.
