The four major trends in the electronics industry are toward solving basic problems of technological advance, miniaturization, reliability, and competition. The effect of these trends on the manufacturing operation are examined in terms of economics and technical feasibility, and from the viewpoints of basic philosophies applied in order to cope with unique manufacturing requirements. The discussion concludes with a review of the needs of the equipment developer and suggests areas in which the mechanization of electronics, may be developed.
