An algorithm has been developed which correlates objective noise measurements of starting motor cranking sound to subjective jury ratings using time domain analysis techniques. The algorithm contains three parameters to characterize cranking sound from strip chart recordings of measured data. The analysis technique has correlated well with jury rankings and has proven helpful in defining “world class” starting motor cranking sound.
