Realistic evaluation of plastic components for the automobile body is dependent on meaningful laboratory tests and correlative field testing at stationary exposure sites and in fleet vehicles. Results of these tests are incorporated in material and performance specifications which stipulate the engineering requirements. Several case histories of actual development and application problems involving several plastics are reviewed.
