The SAE J1708 is a Recommended Practice for Serial Data Communications Between Microcomputer Systems in Heavy-Duty Vehicle Applications. This paper analyzes the J1708 databus. A simulation of the serial link, or databus, using IBM PCs as electronic devices attached to the databus, was accomplished. Recommendations on how to maximize the information flow on the databus are made on the basis of this simulation.
