This paper presents the results of considerations of various aspects of the propulsion power requirements of high speed ground transport systems as yet unspecified.In addition to estimating propulsive power requirements by extrapolation of low speed performance (100 mph) of existing vehicles to high speed (400 mph and up) and by examining the results of an apparently universal drag law, order of magnitude estimates have been made of a number of other factors associated with high speed travel, especially in an enclosed guideway.It must be borne in mind that the purpose of these estimates is to identify potential problem areas and establish order of magnitudes for preliminary thinking.
