The earthmoving industry has been the basic supplier of solid waste disposal equipment. Current reports and publications indicate that new alternatives for disposal will conserve land use.Survey data which reflects current activities and practices notes no head long rush to discard land disposal, in fact there may be no acceptable alternative for much of the waste generated. The author describes the problem magnitude, comments on alternative disposal methods, and identifies some of the challenges specifically related to the earthmoving industry.
