The goal of this job is to present the application of a methodology capable to reduce costs of products in the vehicle conceptual development phase, through a process that stimulates the design development team's creativity. Through the study of the existent development products process in a auto maker company, improvements opportunities in the vehicle development process was identified. This job presents how to plan, execute and implement a Value Engineering (VE) in the new vehicle process development. Applying the Value Analysis / Value Engineer (VA/VE) for new automotive parts development, positive savings result was obtained. It intends to establish a development process to allow obtaining material cost reduction, manufacturing cost reduction, minimization of undesirable product functions and elimination of irrelevant functions in the product, increasing its value. The case study with an application of the Value Engineering (VE) for automotive thermal systems development provided results of 4.5% cost reduction upon the total automotive sub system cost. In this case study these parts was applied in more two different types of vehicles that meant earnings even larger and incalculable. Therefore that job offers application opportunities for automotive field. Besides, was explored the reasons that limits the application of the Value Engineering in the companies.
