The use of liquid automatic particle counters has blossomed in the fluid power industry. As with any data producing instrument, proper calibration and operation within the physical limits of the system are necessary to produce meaningful data. This paper will address some of the basic physical concepts behind the operation of the most common types of liquid automatic particle counters.
