This paper presents a general description of the solar array of the San Marco D/L Spacecraft, a scientific satellite measuring parameters of the upper layers of the earth's atmosphere. The San Marco D/L Satellite, to be launched in April 1985, is designed, built, and managed by the University of Rome, Italy, in cooperation with NASA, Goddard Space Flight Center. The photo-voltaic system includes Si and GaAs cells panels which are described here in terms of mechanical layout and electrical interconnections, along with their relative I-V characteristics. Also reported are the telemetry outputs which allow the experiments to obtain information about the in-flight behavior of both types of solar cells.
