This paper will describe fiber optic networks which utilize intrinsically simple, fiber efficient, linear bus topologies. The Optical Tapping System (OTS) developed by the Ensign Bickford Optics Company provides the passive media to construct such networks. By non-invasively tapping Hard Clad Silica (HCS) fibers, substantial node counts are possible with existing optoelectronic devices. Components of the Optical Tapping System will be discussed along with various network and system implications.
