This paper presents a dynamic analysis of spur gear systems *, using three different microcomputer codes. Two of the codes are based on mainframe computer codes of four inertia models developed by Kasuba and Lin respectively. The microcomputer versions of these codes include interactive pre and post processing modules. The third code which is only a two inertia dynamic analysis module is developed for comparison purposes.Comparison of the results of two inertia and four inertia models shows that shafting stiffness and damping characteristics have negligible effects on the magnitude of the highest natural frequency and on the shaft speed corresponding to the maximum dynamic load.
