Future engine ignition requirements combined with the continued automotive “no service” trend indicated that a new ignition system is desirable for some applications. This paper reviews limitations of present ignition systems and analyzes the Delcotronic ignition system which overcomes these limitations. Recommended applications for the Delcotronic system and the test program by which it was developed are discussed. It is concluded that the Delcotronic ignition system satisfies the needs of today's special applications and that ignition systems of this type can be built to satisfy the requirements of future engines.
