In the paper a new concept of the reference cycle (called as eco-cycle) of IC engine is presented. Diminishing of emission (gaseous phase and solid particles) from combustion engines can be achieved by realisation of two groups of undertakings: primary (inside-engine) doings, secondary doings, comprising catalysts and solid particle filters. The work of the engine basing on the eco-cycle occurs in two 3-stroke stages. In range of each stage a new portion of fuel is burned. The fuel combustion for the whole cycle can be performed at relatively low values of air excess λef ≥ 1. The proposed solution bases on the possibilities of the diminishing of the emission, which the primary doings contain. The elaborated eco-cycle leads to the diminishing of the toxic substance emission and to the improving of engine efficiency.
