We applied the new sintered materials “Dispersed hardening alloy” to valve seats for passengercar's engines. The feature of this new type of materials is that they have many hard dispersed particles consisting intermetallic compound in their relatively soft matrixes. The evaluation were done by actual engines and we found that hard particles assured the good performance of valve seats and did not cause wear to valve faces. Moreover with this new concept the production of valve seats without cobalt can be achieved.
