The general automotive movement from traditional V-belt engine accessory drives to poly-V single belt engine accessory drives has led to the successful development of the first automotive phenolic poly-V pulley. The pulley represents substantial cost and weight savings over alternative metal designs. The phenolic poly-V power steering pulley has successfully undergone vigorous static, dynamic and fleet test programs.This paper will review the four year pulley development program and present an overview of other possible automotive phenolic pulley applications.
