New techniques in mechanical assembly using co-compression and a sintering diffusion process have been developed in Japan. As a result, new generations of composite multifunctional parts are being rapidly developed, which is directly linked to the rediscovery of liquid phase sintering and its virtues. This paper discusses the aspects of these new developments.
