Engineers constantly face the professional challenge of communicating clearly, often through the written word. Some may believe that writing clearly is a knack, requiring mainly memorization of and attention to certain fundamental grammatical rules. While these are important, clear writing requires far more from the human mind. Some of these demands are examined. Some writing tips for the engineer struggling to communicate effectively with a general, non-technical audience also are included.
