Taiwan has started its Stage 1 motorcycle emission regulations since 1988, and will step into Stage 5 emission standards in 2007. The Taiwan Environmental Protection Administration (TEPA) not only tightened up emission standards stage by stage, but also took measures to check emission compliance of motorcycles during the useful life. Especially, the measures concerning the emission control for in-use motorcycles such as the annual inspection and maintenance (I/M) program and the roadside idle emission tests, are unique in the world and effective for the air quality control. By way of emission control measures for new and in-use motorcycles, Taiwan has constructed a life-cycle emission control for motorcycles.
