THE Army's need for a universal gear lubricant for cars and trucks, that is, one capable of lubricating hypoid gears as well as other gears and transmissions, led the Ordnance Department to request the CRC to study the problem in an effort to improve the requirements of the present specifications. The CRC group that made the study has come to the following conclusions: CRC and the Army have now developed two service evaluation tests that appear to give, jointly, a good measure of the dual, speed-pressure function.
